How Courtney Feigl Built a Farmers Co-op & Found Passion in Agriculture

In this episode of the Dairy Hour Podcast, host Val Lavigne (@DairyGalVal) sits down with Courtney Feigl, a former healthcare worker turned farmer and podcaster who found passion in Agriculture. Courtney shares her inspiring journey from the emergency room to raising Texas Longhorns and co-founding a farmers co-op. Her story is a testament to the power of community, adaptability, and following unexpected passions.

From ER to Agriculture

Courtney’s transition from the fast-paced world of healthcare to the serene yet demanding life of farming was anything but conventional. She and her husband now raise Texas Longhorns at Green Pastures Cattle Co., embracing the challenges and rewards of ranch life. But beyond raising cattle, Courtney saw a greater need in the farming community—supporting local farmers through a co-op.

Establishing a Farmers Co-op

What started as a temporary solution for selling beef quickly evolved into a thriving cooperative. Courtney and her partners built a network that helps local farmers market their products more effectively. The co-op not only provides economic stability but also fosters collaboration, ensuring that small-scale farmers can compete in an ever-changing industry.

Creativity & Community in Agriculture

Beyond farming, Courtney expresses her passion in Agriculture through artistry, creating unique prints that reflect rural life. She values creative freedom and finds joy and passion in Agriculture in sharing her work with others. Her husband, a taxidermist specializing in Longhorn mounts, also contributes to their creative endeavors, showcasing the versatility and resourcefulness of their farm life.

Courtney also co-hosts the podcast Ag’s Most Okayest Farm Girls, where she discusses agriculture, rural living, and the importance of authenticity in online spaces. Social media plays a key role in her outreach, allowing her to connect with and educate a broader audience about the realities of farming.

Life Lessons & Aspirations

Throughout the episode, Courtney and Val share insights on real-life connections, personal growth, and resilience. They reflect on college experiences, discuss bucket-list adventures (including family trips to Disneyland), and emphasize the importance of believing in oneself. As Courtney puts it, “It’s gonna be okay. Don’t stress.”
